Used to come up to Poygan every year for white bass in the spring with my dad, was thinking about coming up this spring with my son. Is the "when the lilacs bloom" thing still pretty accurate? Thanks.

Just an update on the reef coordinates. For some reason the Club website is down, but the 3 reefs are in the area of:

44 degrees 08.483' 88 degrees 49.041'

That is actually the southwest of the middle reef and you will find a reef roughly 150 yards to the east and 100 yards to the southwest.

Again, wwww.lakepoygansportsmensclub.org will have the other coordinates up there when the site is back up.

While we're at it, we'll make another call for memberships. Membership will get you our monthly newsletter and keep you up to date on Club activities and issues on the lakes. If interested please send $20 to:

Lake Poygan Sportsmen's Club PO Box 76 Larsen, WI 54947 LPSC is a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation focused on habitat for Lakes Poygan, Winneconne, and the Wolf River. Thanks in advance!

FISHING REPORT

What a horrible way to end my year. Fishing was bad and the people worse. I was the first person on the ice and right when I get ready to set up a 4 wheeler drives up does a u-turn and parks, right next to me. I said piss on it and set up right there. A group of 4 wheeling idiots proceeded to pull in all around and took turns driving constantly. Whenever things would start to settle down, someone else would start the 4 wheeler and move. For anyone still wanting to get out, the public landing on the south side was awful. Open water on the right and center. You have to use the west side to get on and off. The ice away from shore was good but there is a crack east of the landings that is open and uncrossable. Be careful around that, and be safe.

Finished the season almost identical to how I started the season.... Enjoying my time out on the ice doing some fishing with dad and catching a mixed bag of white bass and walleyes. The only difference was we were on opposite sides of the lake. While we were able to get on fish two thirds of a mile off the south shore back in November (opening day of deer hunting) we were a mile off of the north shore yesterday. Dad out-fished me again, as we combined for five walleyes (13-18 inches,) five white bass, a crappie and a catfish.

While tip-ups out-produced the jig pole on Friday, the jig pole (gold spoon tipped with minnow head) was the ticket yesterday, catching all but one walleye, and the crappie and catfish. The best bite was from 1:00-4:00, as we only caught one white bass and the catfish after 4:00. Seemed like when the wind died down, so did the bite.

Saturday was my last day of walleye fishing through the ice until Nov/Dec. I was able to take four wheeler off Indian Point yesterday, but there were definitely spots to avoid when crossing the crack right off the landing, both going on the ice and coming off. What looked "good" was actually unsafe, as you were better off driving through the 8-10 inches of standing water that had "decent" ice underneath it. Would venture to guess that the crack will be impassable in the next day or two, even by foot unless someone brings planks with them.

Poygan treated me great this year, giving me steady walleye action on tip-ups. It reminded me of years past when my dad and Papa would take me out as a kid. This will be one of the years that will be easy to remember, as in roughly 20-25 trips out to Poygan this year, I came home empty only two or three times. A lot of great memories with dad and friends, and can't wait for the next ice season to get here!!!

Fished yesterday from two till dark. Donated tackle to two sturgeon and landed two ten inch walleyes. Returned both to water. We were on Norwegian Bay. Ice was good all over there but Indian Point landing shot. Was tricky getting our wheeler off. Owner said he was allowing foot traffic only from.now on.putting gear away today.....

FISHING REPORT

Was extremely blessed to be able to get out fishing so much this past week. Flip flopped from Poygan to W. side of Bago Tue. through Thursday. Nice closure to a great season. Walked out on Poygan for the last time 3/12 Thur. afternoon. Marked a lot and the fish started biting slowly closer to dark. Dad and I finished well. He ended up out jigging me again on the big fish. Three of the five walleyes he caught were really nice. He hooked what I thought for sure was a sturgeon on a small spoon, only to find out it was a big northern. Fattest 36inch fish I've seen, back in of course. We caught pretty many crappies and maybe 15 WB? It was good action anyway and we lost a lot, marked a lot... On our way in, walking in the dark, we stumbled on what looked like a lot of open water about a 1/4 mile in front of Nofkes. Looked like the old road/heave??? Crazy stuff? We were drilling through a lot of ice out there and the shoreline looked well, not all that bad. We side stepped the area to the E. However, it looked really dangerous for the unsuspecting motorist. idk Wasn't expecting to see that out there. Thanks to the man who gave me the 5 WB and pointed me to where he was catching, blessings. The first time out on Poygan this year, I was offered a ride, out of the blue, to where the fish were biting. Its funny the way things seem to work out sometimes. Anyway, be careful to anyone still wanting to venture out there and thanks for reading. Hope you all had a memorable season.

Ice is pretty much shot, not even any good ice on the bottom. Should be able to walk out for a couple more days, but that is all I would advise. I am sure some will push the limits with wheelers yet, but good luck with that. With these high night time temps, the ice is not getting a chance to firm up at all and is going quick.

We did pretty good on whitebass yesterday, a couple walleyes and crappie. We were off noffkes on the south shore. Even had a guide pull up with around 6 clients and fish 20 yards from us so figured we were doing something right, lol. Unfortunately, the rest of the lake seemed to follow him over and our group grew considerably and the fishing slowed down.

We were getting fish on small spoons tipped with waxies or spikes.

Stay safe out there. Stay on top.

Warrior I agree with u....was slow. Norwegian bay from 5 till 8. One nice catfish and one 8 inch eye released. 4 flags all day. We walked out. Indian point had one Lil patch of water about ten feet wide. We fished with tip ups and medium shiners.I am far from an expert but ice should b good for wheelers and foot traffic for a good while yet.

Indian Point is still accessible by 4 wheeler or by foot. The ice is plenty thick yet, although there is still a lot of standing water. Fishing has been very good. Please be safe.

The ramp in Fremont is open but only a few hundred yards in each direction. We need some rain or current to break it wide open.

Good Luck

fished off bay road today (alder creek). about 20 guys out. I was there from 10-2. I can assure you nobody caught much if anything. I got a couple whities. Ice was fine for 4 wheeler. 2 feet thick and mildly turning honeycombed. Not worth my time today. Was hoping to fill a bag or 2. Oh well.
