Two part report....
Took a drive by south side of the lake on Wednesday as I was on my way home. Stopped by Spuce, Herbst, Public Landing and Captain's. Saw small open areas West of Spruce and West of Captain's.
While checking ice off of Herbst, met the "new" guy Tim that is running things. Had a very nice conversation with him, and can definitely see how much work he has put into improving things for us ice fisherman. He cleared out a bunch of area behind the barn for more parking, re-modeled the bait shop, etc... I REALLY hope guys will stop in and support the shop because I would hate to see us lose an additional access point if the business falls through.
As for a fishing report, went out on Sunday for about 3-4 hours. I could see about 7-8 different guys out on the lake. Their is a small crack (16-18 inches wide) about 50? yards off of shore. Right now it is just crusted over, but you can step over it without much of an issue. The weather seemed more like what you would have late ice, not early ice. Can't remember the last time I fished Poygan and didn't have any wind to worry about. As for the fishing, pretty slow... Picked up a couple of white bass and one yellow bass. Also had a small walleye (8 inches) get off at the top of the hole.
While I didn't have anything for the frying pan when I got home, it was still nice to be out on the ice!!!
