I know bowfishing isn't allowed but I can't see any reason spearing would be illegal other than maybe they are worried about people leaving dead fish all over the place. The river could use a lot of bowfishing and spearing of carp, it's out of control there.

I have a question about spear fishing for carp... my 11 year old son wants to get a carp with a spear and his mom lives on the BD river. He fishes it daily and does really well. He went out yesterday to spear and a police officer stopped him and said it was illegal. Before fishing we called the DNR and they said he could do it. Now we are hearing there may be a city ordinance restricting spearing in the city of Beaver Dam. Just wondering if you guys know. Thanks!

On average it is shallow. If you try to canoe it in middle of summer after no rain for a bit you would probably be getting out multiple times in a short period of time. Average depth I would guess to be only a couple of feet in town and south of town for a bit. There are a few small holes and deeper areas. deepest I have found has been about 6 foot. That doesn't mean there aren't spots that are deeper nor are there many over 3 foot or so.

How deep is the Beaver Dam River on average & how deep would it be @ it's deepest points? Moved here in the Summer of 2013 from Ripon, & have been wondering about it's depth for fishing & canoeing. Thanks for any help.

I fished again yesterday morning with plastic. No minnows. I caught about 15 walleyes with none being legal & 2 perch.

I fished the river the last 3 mornings & Wednesday evening. I must have caught close to 50 walleyes with none being legal. I also caught a few perch on Wednesday but then the city opened up another chute on the dam & I have not been able to find them again. Almost all the walleyes were caught with minnows but I did get some on plastic. I'm not ice fishing now cause I fell through once a number of years back & had to be saved by a complete stranger or I probably would not be here. Stay safe if you are on the ice it isn't worth it to me.

Hit the damn yesterday, 12-14-14, and me and my old lady came home with a two man limit of perch. Not to damn bad in size either, the smallest was 7 1/2", and all of em were still full of spawn.

I fished the river again Saturday morning & caught plenty of perch. The only other fish I caught was 1 smaller crappie. Most perch still around 7'' but a few are 8''.

I fished the river this morning for a few hours. When I got there the city had just opened up 1 chute of the dam. I didn't catch anything for about the first 30 minutes & was about ready to quit when I caught a perch. They started biting & kept biting until I left. Most were around 7'' but I did get a few over 8''. The only other fish I caught besides perch was 1 bullhead.

I was fishing up by the dam when I caught the perch but you can also get some down river in certain spots.
